Friday we got lost

Today we went briefly to Nagoya to visit some of the government offices then went around Takashimaya to view the city from it's 51st floor but when we got to the 51st floor the free panoramic view of the city was now covered by coffee shops and beauty salons. So we went down to their stationery and writing materials department on the 10th floor where we saw very nice things but ended up not buying any, for one i figured out how to make my own spanning pages using watercolour paper and put them in my handmade drawing notebook. And there is too much nice things to buy but there is not enough money. Going down i wanted something hot and i was hoping for a Goto King outlet but that wish was not going to happen and i did not want to eat at the expensive restaurants so we ended up just going home. From the train station we tried walking home, it was sunset but the air was getting colder, we passed by a river where there were patches of veggies (daghan nga sibuyas dahon) being plant...

i did not go out today. so let this day be known as: no shower day

monday

today is our first day in our new hosts house so we just worked all day. i did not get to finish my work today so i will be working more tomorrow. in the afternoon we spent two hours in a recycled shop were one of the things that interested me was a bunch of tamaguchi toys. i was tempted to get one but i am bad at having pets. i did not want my tamaguchi to die of neglect. while they were shopping. i was composing my journal for yesterday's travel. i took some prodding child shots today too.

snow day

yesterday (sunday) we went to shiragawa village. this old village is a world heritage site. this village has 24 old wooden houses designed for warmth with thick straw roofs and a huge hearth on the middle of the living area. in the museum there are houses that have artifacts mostly home tools that were used in thier old ways of living. some houses you can com inside for free some have a fee. there was a small 7-10 feet drop of water from the creek that flows into a pond. this area was covered in snow and the pond was frozen so it was hard to tell if it was man-made or not. when we entered the museum i saw a shed which was a watermill and i wasted no time drawing it even if it was snowing lightly. while drawing, i had to cover my notebook from the snow that fell from pine branches when the wind blew. but water and snow still fell on my sketchbook pages. thankfully the pages dried up after a few hours. it was so cold could only do scratchy drawings with my charcoal pencil. walking a...

Inuyama Castle

Image
Today is valentines day and i was surprised that nobody was wearing red! well we are not in the Philippines anymore and they said that the color red is associated with the really old japanese folk so.... from the Inuyama train station we walk to the castle talking the road by the river, there we saw ducks, many of them, huge coys hanging around by the city sewage outlet (maybe it was not a sewage outlet, the water flowing did not look dirty) one big white bird, that we first thought was a goat :D and was probably there for the fish. Inuyama Castle is beautiful and had 4 full sets of samurai armour on display inside, we went to the top of the castle where you will get a 360 view of the city. As soon as we went down, i water colour painted a japanese pine tree and a cherry tree, there was no more time to draw the castle so i just took a picture of it with the prodding child and ned flanders. I chose to spend the day with my wife and not let her wait around as i sketched or painte...

about last night

Image
Last night ended with asahi beer, but we had sake before that. That is why i was not able to blog yesterday. Tonight let me tell you more about yesterday... When we woke up friday morning it was snowing moderately so we got out and took some pictures and videos (posted on instagram and kikit's ) , it was my first snow experience, it was an ok experience for me and proceeded to work the entire day, we had fried tofu and cucumber for lunch. In the afternoon when there was no more snow, we took a walk to the nearby river thinking that maybe i could sketch or do some watercolor, but when we got there it started snowing lightly, we saw a muskrat (an invasive specie here in japan) busy eating on something, after a few minutes it started to snow hard and the wind blew sideways so we shot more pics but had no waterproof cameras with us so we had to go back, it was so cold. The muskrat did not mind the snow falling on its fur, it continued to do its business. 30mins after we are ba...

today is sushi day

Image
and also my first cc lemon day. they let me drink my first canned lemon juice drink after having a mcdonalds burger for snacks. the burger tasted similar to mcdo burgers in the philippines. i just remembered that on my first night here at gifu i also tasted my first canned tomato juice which was not bad but my taste buds already associates the tomato taste with pasta or ravioli. at the sushi bar i tasted first their  authentic tempura, probably with only 10percent flour. i still prefer the dgte blvd tempura which composed of 90percent flour hehehe then i tasted two different raw fish eggs. one looked like very tiny grains and the other one looked like the eggs from the movie finding nemo. the egg balls were considerably big. maybe they were trully clownfish eggs? in the philippines we cook fish eggs with soup or fry them. which tasted better for me. i also ate duck meat. which reminds me that yesterday afternoon we saw a black duck flying around our neighborhoo...

nagoya to gifu

Image
me and kikit arrived at nagoya international airport last night around 830pm from manila. temperature was 4 degrees celsius and when we stepped outside the airport nagaso aso gyud akong baba i remember it was that cold at the depths of the caves in sagada. from the airport we took the train to gifu and had several stops all the way to the end of the line. when the train started i almost fell backwards as i was putting my backback down so i could sit. luckily my arm and hand did not fail me, had i not grabbed the pole i would have fallen down on some girl's luggage. last night was my first night here in japan and i did not take a bath hehehe but i had to finish working for my online job first before sleeping. the network at our hosts's house is 5g. the download speed last night was 16mbs and the upload speed was over 100! today we just stayed at home and worked alk day. by sunset we went out to the local bookstore which did not look local at all. colcos is bigg...

mobile blogging

i finally got the chance to install the blogger app for Android. since i am away from my scanner which i left in davao city, i have been posting alot on instagram. i still feel that webpages and websites are the first and last resort for information online specially when social sites are down. so here i am writing on a touch phone. let's see how long i will last before my thumbs start to ache from tapping, before i go back to writing on my laptop.
